This took a lot of guts for me to post because believe it or not, I am quite self conscious and actually dislike my face. I think my jawline is wonky, I have annoying features and I'm not a makeup pro at all - I just like to use new products. But in reality, who cares? This blog is all about being real, so who needs a perfectly edited photoshopped face?
Rimmel very kindly sent me some products a while back, so I thought I'd put them to the test and let you actually see what they are capable of, rather than just swatching them for you. Of course I am using other products too to complete the look, so I'll be talking you through all of those as well!
But for now, prepare yourself for my untouched, scary face.....
After cleansing and priming my face, I always start with foundation. The one I am using for this look is my trusty L'Oreal Infallible 24 Hour Matte Foundation in 12 Natural Rose. This is probably my favourite drugstore foundation and one I always come back to. It blends wonderfully, gives a lovely medium-to-buildable coverage and feels virtually weightless on the skin.
I use a damp Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to bounce the product into my skin until I have a nice, matte finish. I have recently had to bite the bullet and say RIP to my beloved Beautyblender as it was so old, but the RT sponge is definitely a cheaper, and very similar alternative.
For concealer, I usually always use the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 01 Fair. Doesn't every blogger? This is so affordable and it's such high coverage. I use this to hide my dark under-eye
circles and any imperfections, as well as brightening up and dull points on my face.
I go over any stubborn blemishes with my Collection Cover Up Stick in 13 Natural Beige without blending and then powder with the NYX HD Finish Powder and my RT Powder Brush.
Dem hideous untouched brows.. |
Next up, I use the Benefit Gimme Brow to add direction and volume to my brows (this is the only non drugstore product!) and to fill & define them I use the Soap & Glory 2-in-1 Archery Brow Pencil. I definitely want to be to be more adventurous with brow products in the near future, I just find these two work the best for me at this moment in time.
For eyes, I used the Rimmel London Magif'eyes Eyeshadow Palette in London Nudes Calling* which has the perfect shades for any skin tone and eye shape with a mixture of matte and shimmer. For the base, I tend to use either the one of the lightest 2 matte shades, then I will contour the shape of my eye with the matte beige shade.
For my crease, I like the use the 2 darkest shades at the end. For this look, I've blended the dark copper shimmer shade into my crease, and added some of the dark purple in the outer corner. For the inner corner, I just pop a bit of the light pink shimmer on if I want to intensify the look.
Then, I went in with my new Scandaleyes Bold 24 Hour Liquid Eyeliner*, followed by the Rimmel London Wonder'full Mascara With Argan Oil*. The eyeliner has an thin, circular nib to it, which is great for getting close to the lash line, however I did find it slightly harder to do winged liner in comparison to the Scandaleyes Felt-tip liners. Other than that, it really does last all day and lives up to the waterproof claims.
The mascara has a flexible plastic wand and is great for getting that clump-free length on your lashes. This is definitely one of the more subtle mascaras I own and isn't volume-based, but this works well for me for every day use. I'd say you can really build this mascara, depending on how intense you want your look (and how stubborn/short your lashes are!). It definitely does a great job of coating every lash and I love how gentle the formula is.
So there we have it, my first GRWM post. This definitely took a lot of balls to post this as my makeup-less face isn't the nicest looking thing on earth, but I'm glad I conquered that fear and I hope you liked it! Let me know if you'd like to see more looks, I love experimenting with different products!
What's your favourite makeup at the moment? :)
